Dhanu Sankranti is a Hindu festival that marks the crossing of the sun over the zodiac sign Sagittarius. It is celebrated by worshipping Lord Surya, the god of light, and Lord Jagannath, who is considered as a form of Vishnu. On that day, theatrical street plays are performed – depicting the life of Lord Krishna from birth to the killing of the tyrant ruler Kamsa. Moreover, several events from the Bhagavata Purana are referred to in the plays.
