World Sleep Day is an annual event that was instigated by the World Sleep Society in 2008. It typically falls on the Friday before the northern hemisphere vernal equinox with the aim of promoting the advantages of healthy sleep cycles; and raising awareness of sleep disorders and their direct effect on the health of individuals. Also, the World Sleep Society provides ample information vis-à-vis the proper modi operandi of preventing sleep disorders; for they threaten the health of approximately 45% of the world’s population.
