The 8th of September of every year marks the Nativity of Mary – a holiday which commemorates the birth of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. The day is observed in various countries with slightly altered appellations. For example, in Malta, it is yclept Feast of Our Lady of Victories. Whilst in Andorra, it is known as Our Lady of Meritxell, which is also the national day of Andorra. Whereas in the Philippines, it is denominated Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and was first inaugurated in 2019 as a special working holiday following a decree by President Rodrigo Duterte. It is also a public holiday in Liechtenstein, and a regional holiday in several Spanish autonomous communities.
